Family Foundation 4 Learning Scholarship Achievers Congratulations to the 2016 Award Recipients The Family Foundation 4 Learning, headquartered in Moorpark, California has announced its sixth year of scholarship awards to high school seniors. The Foundation selects applicants in the order of need, academics, community service, extracurricular activities and writing communications. Six awards were made this year and all are four-year scholarships of $1,000 distributed over the four-year college career. Ebony Adkins, SOAR (Students On Academic Rise) High School, Lancaster, California, class of 2016, continuing her education at the University of California, Berkeley. A native of Lancaster, California. Ebony has an excellent work ethic and has overcome tremendous adversity with perseverance to be an overachiever. Activist in the Students for Educational Justice and an Agents of Change Member, Ebony is already impacting change in her community. Ebony is graduating in May 2016 from SOAR High School with a cumulative weighted G.P.A. of 4.36 and ranked thirteenth in her graduating class of eighty-nine. and writing communications. Four awards were made, three scholarships and one Scholastic
achievement award. Renarta S. Hammond of Atlanta, GA. “Renarta displays an intellect, maturity and grace far beyond her eighteen years. No student is more focused, determined and committed to her education than she is. In addition to being a stellar student, Renarta is also a well-rounded person who constantly gives back to her community. Her passion for helping others has led her to continuously and consistently volunteer herself with numerous organizations throughout metro Atlanta, including the Senior Connection Center and the Perimeter North Family Medicine Center. Renarta is able to work with people of all ages and from all walks of life.”, Robin M. Blake, M.S. South Atlanta School of Law and Social Justice. Renarta is a very active and involved student leader on campus. She tutors her peers at South Atlanta School of Law and Social Justice and elementary school students at Humphries Elementary School. Not only is Renarta Salutatorian of her graduating class but she also serves in leadership roles in the Beta Club, National Honor Society, ROTC Drill Team, and the Girls Varsity Softball Team. Poe of Atlanta, GA. Lauren has a reputation of being bright, focused, driven, dynamic and dedicated to her education and career goals. Lauren is further spoken of as consistently outperforming her peers in class assessments and earned a passing grade on the National AP exam and earned college credit. When a Junior in High School Lauren earned the top score among all juniors on the Georgia High School Writing Test. In addition to her academic achievements, Lauren is a community and entrepreneurial leader. In response to a global need, Lauren organized “Gifts For Africa”, a clothing and toiletry drive for children in Nyahururu, Kenya. This effort has obtained nearly75% participation among South Atlanta School of Law and Social Justice Homerooms and advisories. Lauren also optimized her own writing talent and entrepreneurial spirit by creating a highly trafficked blog that discusses issues from popular culture, social awareness and even politics from a teen’s perspective. Lauren’s strong character and integrity have caused her to be elected to the position of “advisory president”. This role requires Lauren to lead about twenty female students in daily thirty minute discussions of sensitive life issues. It is our distinct pleasure to be associated with a person of such high quality and we wish you the best in your future. Lauren plans to attend Pace University, New York. Khadeijah R. Ferrell, Washington, D. C. Khadeijah has overcome early high school challenges and is now a leading achiever, maintaining Honor Roll status in her last two years at Spingarn Senior High School in Washington; D. C. Khadeijah has been very active in extra-curricular activities and community service. Khadeijah is part of the University of the District of Columbia Educational Talent Search and the DC College Access Program. Khadeijah is also a member of the school indoor and outdoor Track & Field Team. In her free time she volunteers to feed the homeless.
