Achievers Info II

From the Public Schools of Atlanta, Georgia we have received two very qualified recipients.

Teanna Dawntia Glass
Graduated May 24, 2011
South Atlanta School of Law and Social Justice
Class Rank 2, GPA 3.7

Teanna has evolved into a woman of leadership action committed to leaving a better world than she has found. Teanna heard dissention among her peers about the new dress code and decided to become a part of the solution. She facilitated a group of students who created alternatives to the school dress code that would promote college readiness and job preparedness thus taking the lead in taking a potential negative and turning it into positive increasing student morale while helping the school administration to implement a new concept.

Teanna further demonstrates her leadership skills holding the office of President of the National Honor Society, Alzheimer's Foundation of America Teens Chapter and 12th Grade Student Government Association President.  Her peers selected her as Captain of the South Atlanta Novice Math Andover Dartmouth Team, Ms. South Atlanta Educational Complex and secretary of South Atlanta's General Council. She listens to what people have to say and finds way to solution any issues they may share. It is her listening ear that causes many of her peers to trust that she will always act with their best interest at heart.

Teanna has participated in copious activities sponsored by Community In Schools of Atlanta (CISA) several she initiated herself. Without her diligence and persistence the campus improvement projects for Crawford Long Middle School and Georgia Tech Campus would not have been completed. Instead of waiting for direction on facilitating "Books for Africa" she devised a system and instructed her peers on how to sort and pack the books for shipment. She has accumulated over 650 community service hours with CISA alone.

Teanna has received letters of acceptance from:

Denison University, Granville, Ohio

Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama

Kentucky State University, Frankfort, Kentucky

The University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia

Teanna has accepted the offer from The University of Georgia and is currently matriculating there.

Shantinay Lashay Barnes
Graduated May 24, 2011
South Atlanta School of Law and Social Justice
Class Rank 9, GPA 3.0

Shantinay exhibits the highest degree of integrity, exceptional focus and persistence in all of her efforts. Despite the lack of family support while experiencing numerous personal and familial obstacles and hardships, Shantinay has remained a giving, caring, hard-working and committed student. She is truly a role model admired and loved by students and teachers alike. She gives 110% to everything she approaches. With Shantinay there is no try either do or do not and she does.

Shantinay's participation in the U. S. Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps is legendary. She has developed her leadership skills and has become a platoon leader and engaged in civic responsibility. She participated in the Veterans Day Parade and the Empty Stocking Fund. Shantinay as a Cadet Major in the Army JROTC held the third highest rank in South Atlanta High School battalion. She was responsible for overseeing all of the battalions training. During this time she experienced tremendous growth and development in both JROTC achievement and awards and in maturity and character.
